Wildlife on Pleasure Island

ON LAND

Go for a walk in the Carolina Beach State Park and you may encounter White-tailed deer, gray fox, American alligators, red fox, Eastern box turtles, raccoons, opossums, gray squirrels, and fox squirrels.

Bonus! The CBSP is one of the only places on Earth where you can easily spot the famed Venus flytrap! (It is a felony offense to remove, possess, or poach them)

IN THE SEA

Pleasure Island has the Atlantic Ocean, the Cape Fear River (Snow’s Cut), a freshwater lake, and plenty of wetlands. Wildlife you may see in the water includes Bottlenose dolphins, sharks, Loggerhead sea turtles, jellyfish, ducks, rays, manatees, river otters, and a variety of fish species.

IN THE SKY

In addition to providing habitat for resident land birds during the winter and summer, Pleasure Island is located along an important migration corridor and attracts many birds during their migrations. You can see white ibis, painted buntings, terns, Brown pelicans, finches, woodpeckers, ospreys, herons, and various raptors
